Cheryl Mlcoch, LPC

Founder / Executive Director

As the Founder and Executive Director of CLEAR Lighthouse – I’ve personally lived through being a trauma, suicide attempt, and loss survivor. I’ve spent the majority of my life helping others in numerous ways since I was 18 years old, have been a clinical mental health counselor for over 16 years, an energy healer for over 5 years, and lived a holistic lifestyle for numerous years for my physical/mental/spiritual health.

I’ve seen people heal and build strength in ways they never thought possible and I knew it was time to share what I was doing in my integrated practice on a much larger scale!

Trauma, Suicide Attempt & Suicide Loss Survivor

Cheryl has a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix, SLC, UT, a Bachelors in Exercise Science from Ball State University, Muncie, IN and is a Certified Level 4 Energy Healer. For over 15 years, she has been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and has worked with youth for 30 years in a variety of settings. These settings include grief support groups after the loss of a loved one to suicide or murder, ER crisis worker, foster care, drug court, previous Board Member for CASA of Larimer County, Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters, camp counselor, and coaching high school basketball & volleyball. Cheryl blended her private practice for five years with a combination of traditional and holistic counseling and saw incredible results! This is why she is on a mission to bring holistic mental health to communities on a larger scale.

Cheryl has personal experience with many different types of trauma, depression/anxiety and suicide due to being an attempt survivor, losing friends and family to suicide, living with autoimmune disease, witnessing violence regularly as a child/youth, working with suicidal clients, and many others. Her mother's murder at the age of 18 sent her into a tailspin that almost led to her own death but thankfully ended up transforming her into helping others even more. This variety pack of experiences has helped her to relate & connect with people in very unique ways. Cheryl's belief in healing through nurturing your body/mind/spirit has proven itself and taken her from being bedridden to living with intention!

In 2018, Cheryl became Certified in the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training Program (ASIST). She is also trained in administering the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) tool which will be used at CLEAR Lighthouse. Due to her background and training in trauma, she will help make CLEAR Lighthouse a trauma-informed/responsive holistic community center.

Cheryl has volunteered with two local suicide prevention workgroups to help serve LGBTQIA youth and helping the faith community to be more connected & educated in prevention efforts. She currently serves on the Youth Suicide Prevention Committee and Impacted Family & Friends Committee for AAS / American Association of Suicidology. Due to her clinical and lived experience, she is considered a Suicidologist by AAS.

Cheryl has been a guest speaker and instructor over the years in the areas of mental health, complicated grief, and trauma. Since 2018, she has been a guest speaker sharing about her trauma and suicide attempt survivor story and will continue due to her strong belief that those with lived experience can help change the landscape of mental health and suicide prevention. She was silenced for 21 years, but no more. She believes trauma & suicide is everyone's business and we need to promote human connection more than ever before! She will continue to be a voice for those suffering in silence. She encourages others with lived experience to share their stories as well - when they are ready and in their own way.

Cheryl has shared her lived experience and vision for CLEAR Lighthouse at events and on several podcasts & Twitter Chats that include:

Speaking Engagements

I would be honored to share my story with you or offer any guidance when it comes to empowering others! I am quite transparent when I share, but it comes from a place of love. Engaging my audience to challenge themselves to see what they are truly capable of is so transforming to experience and they help me just as much!

There is much more to you and your life then the pain you have endured. You are VALIANT and there is a reason you were chosen to experience these circumstances in your life. The good news is that there is a lot more of your story to be told and you have power over what direction it goes. I can't wait to explore this journey with you!
